Eleven-year-old Eve Creed is used to her investigative journalist father getting caught up in big stories. His new investigation, however, has completely taken over his life. Tense and forgetful, Eve is hurt by his inattention until he confesses that the ‘Big Truth’ he is researching is dangerous to them all because powerful people will not want the story told. Eve is shocked when her mother immediately packs up the car and runs away with her to isolated Verity Island, a small island which belongs to her family. They must live alone, away from technology, and visited only infrequently by the mail boat once a week. However, even in such a wild and secluded place, more secrets are uncovered, ones which test everything Eve’s parents have told her about  ‘always telling the truth’. This junior novel deals with themes of secrets and truths, and how it is not always easy for a child to find the best path through.
